How did I get started writing

…by accident really. I was made redundant from my job in 2009 and for over a year couldn’t get another one.

While having time off was great to begin with, there’s only so much watching TV or doing housework a guy can take without going a little mental. I’m surprised more housewives don’t go postal and take out all those crappy drivers at the school gates. Plus the lack of money was starting to get to me a bit too.

I was reading a lot at that time; visiting the local library at least once a week and hauling away three or four books. I was reading of one of these books, I can’t remember which one, when I suddenly realised… this is crap, anyone could do better that this.

Now I hadn’t written anything since I left school in the 90’s and never even made up a bedtime story for the kids. I was obviously naïve about how difficult writing a book could be, but I didn’t stop to think about what it involved, I just jumped in.

From the beginning...

Hi...

Welcome to the first ever post of my Blog called 34.80. (which you already know as you're reading this.)

I've just finished my first book and have secured an agent who is touting it around publishers as of last Monday. In the meantime I've started on my second book.

Currently I've a full time day-job but I'm hoping to make a career of writing crime fiction over the next few years and knock working on the head completely.(I don't consider writing a job, yet...it's still a pleasure)

Using this blog I'm going to report the progress of what I'm hoping won't be a long and tortuous journey to publishing my first novel. I'll talk about the publishing process as I experience it for the first time, to try an help others who follow after me..and probably overtake me on the way.

In addition I expect the blog will also include musings on pretty much everything else that comes to mind. Posts will appear on a random basis but i hope to update at least once a week.

I'm going to stay anonymous until such time as i'm published. Currently the number of people who know I've started writing seriously, can be counted on one hand. I can do without the constant questioning from a larger group (...'did you finish it yet?... any word from a publisher?... 'can you loan me a fifty?) you know the type of thing.

Anyway that's it for now, hopefully I'll see you back here soon .

Thanks,

TF.80
